A single species of ''Acalyptomerus'' is known from Taiwan: ''A. lawrencei'' Liu, Yu & Li, 2025 (non-endemic). In our project, we sampled this species only in Mt. Shoushan and Mt. Banpingshan directly in Kaohsiung City. Despite we have samples Mt. Banpingshan frequently since 2021, the first specimens of this species were found there only in 2024, since then the species is regularly found and locally can be common. The species was described from a city park in Guangzhou City in southern China in 2025 - the species may hence be more widespread in urban areas, and we cannot exclude that it was introduced to Taiwan only recently.

A small family of tiny-sized beetles living in leaf litter, rotten wood and decaying organic material, most likely feeding on fungal hyphae or spores [1]. Two genera and 6 species are known from Taiwan.

Clambus

Most Clambus species (except C. formosanus) are found in montane forests in altitudes above 2000 m. Five species have been described so far:

  • C. formosanus Endrődy-Younga, 1959 (non-endemic)[2]
  • C. gibbus Endrődy-Younga, 1986 (endemic)[3]
  • C. klapperichi Endrődy-Younga, 1986 (endemic)[3]
  • C. pilloselus Reitter, 1876 (non-endemic)[3]
  • C. tuberculatus Endrődy-Younga, 1986 (endemic)[3]

Acalyptomerus

Acalyptomerus lawrencei from Shoushan Park, Kaohsiung, Taiwan (specimens collected in August 2025).

A single species of Acalyptomerus is known from Taiwan: A. lawrencei Liu, Yu & Li, 2025 (non-endemic). The species was described from a city park in Guangzhou City in southern China in 2025[5] - the species may hence be more widespread in urban areas, and we cannot exclude that it was introduced to Taiwan only recently.
